چکیده

In this paper we present a new formulation of a large class of phase-eld models, which describe solidiication of a pure material and allow for both surface energy and interface kinetic anisotropy, in terms of the Hooman-Cahn-vector. The-vector has previously been used in the context of sharp interface models, where it provides an elegant tool for the representation and analysis of interfaces with anisotropic surface energy. We show that the usual gradient-energy formulations of anisotropic phase-eld models are expressed in a natural way in terms of the-vector when appropriately interpreted. We use this new formulation of the phase-eld equations to provide a concise derivation of the Gibbs-Thomson-Herring equation in the sharp-interface limit in three dimensions.

Experimental study and numerical simulation of three dimensional two phase impinging jet flow using anisotropic turbulence model

Hydrodynamic of a turbulent impinging jet on a flat plate has been studied experimentally and numerically. Experiments were conducted for the Reynolds number range of 72000 to 102000 and a fixed jet-to-plate dimensionless distance of H/d=3.5. Based on the experimental setup, a multi-phase numerical model was simulated to predict flow properties of impinging jets using two turbulent models. Mesh...

Velocity Modeling in a Vertical Transversely Isotropic Medium Using Zelt Method

In the present paper, the Zelt algorithm has been extended for ray tracing through an anisotropic model. In anisotropic media, the direction of the propagated energy generally differs from that of the plane-wave propagation. This makes velocity values to be varied in different directions. Therefore, velocity modeling in such media is completely different from that in an isotropic media. The vel...

Local spectrum analysis of field propagation in an anisotropic medium. Part II. Time-dependent fields.

In Part I of this two-part investigation [J. Opt. Soc. Am. A 22, 1200 (2005)], we presented a theory for phase-space propagation of time-harmonic electromagnetic fields in an anisotropic medium characterized by a generic wave-number profile. In this Part II, these investigations are extended to transient fields, setting a general analytical framework for local analysis and modeling of radiation...

Finite-difference quasi-P traveltimes for anisotropic media

The first-arrival quasi-P wave traveltime field in an anisotropic elastic solid solves a first-order nonlinear partial differential equation, the q P eikonal equation. The difficulty in solving this eikonal equation by a finitedifference method is that for anisotropic media the ray (group) velocity direction is not the same as the direction of the traveltime gradient, so that the traveltime gra...

Digital Surface Regularization by Normal Vector Field Alignment

Digital objects and digital surfaces are isothetic structures per se. Such surfaces are thus not adapted to direct visualization with isothetic quads, or to many geometry processing methods. We propose a new regularization technique to construct a piecewise smooth quadrangulated surface from a digital surface. More formally we propose a variational formulation which efficiently regularizes digi...
